Furniture Making: Laminating and Veneering Course

Skill Level: Intermediate & Advanced  (Is this course right for me?)

Veneering course

In this introduction to laminating and veneering we cover the techniques, materials, equipment and skills involved in making a curved laminated panel covered in a finished decorative veneer.

This intensive two day laminating and veneering course is ideal for those who would like to expand their woodworking knowledge and widen their furniture making capabilities, opening up a larger choice of decorative and exotic woods not currently available through solid wood furniture making.

I teach the course myself and limit the group to a maximum of five students to ensure I can provide individual tuition time.

You do not need to buy any tools or equipment as all hand tools and materials are provided.

Veneer matching

By the end of the course you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to achieve curved and organic designs that can be incorporated into your bespoke furniture making.

The main course topics covered are:

  • Plan and make a veneered and curved, laminated panel
  • Vacuum press principles, types of press and use of equipment
  • Adhesive, pigment and extenders used in laminating and veneering
  • Moulds and formers
  • Pressing and jointing veneers
  • Prepping difficult decorative veneer for pressing
  • Selecting veneer, book matching, slip matching
